Play music for transitions.

By Jennifer Lingle, M.Ed.

Transitions can be very challenging for your precious students or clients.  I encourage you to find a song for every transition.  You can sing a song, play a song, or even whistle a song.  You may have noticed that the majority of your students respond very well to music. Use this to your advantage.  In between activities, when it is time to clean up, when an activity begins, and when a game ends, sing a song.  Music lights up a room, and most probably you and your students, too.

Thanks for the encouragement. I have been debating for years about whether to write a book specifically for transition songs. This post has put me over the edge and I’ve decided to definitely do it! I’ll record a CD to go with it so that teachers/parents/music therapists/etc. can learn the songs. But, I will also include a chapter on how to write transition songs. THANKS!
