12 Jan Respect Sensory Needs.
Have you ever met a child on the autism spectrum who did not have sensory needs? Me neither! You may find that several (or all) of your students have challenges sitting for extended periods of time. Focusing and attending to tasks may also be difficult. Try allowing your students to jump up and down, bounce on a ball, do 15 jumping jacks, or do 10 push-ups before they sit down. Encouraging movement and exercise is respecting their sensory needs, and will positively affect their on-task behaviors. Try it and let me know what you think!
