Autism Does Not Create Murderers

Your child is not a killer. Autism does not cause people to shoot others. My blood is boiling at the thought of anybody using autism as a scapegoat for the recent shooting that killed 17 innocent lives in Parkland, Florida.

As a parent, you are probably terrified at what others are going to think about your child. As if you don’t get judged enough, now you have to add this to your plate. I hate that this is happening.

This post is not about gun control. It’s not about the insanity that is going on in the US government. It’s not about opinions on whether or not teachers should have guns in classrooms.

This is about how autism DID NOT cause this person to walk into a school, pull the trigger on a semi-automatic rifle, and murder people who were in a supposedly safe school environment.

As part of the autism community, it is our job to educate others. We need to be a voice for those who do not and cannot speak. Share a million posts on your Facebook page, talk to people when you are out in the community, and teach others what autism actually means.

Please do not let this tragedy plant seeds and pigeon hole people with autism.

Autism is a developmental disability that affects social-communication skills. Autism DOES NOT cause a person to purchase a gun, and make a calculated decision to harm and kill others.

Please spread the word. Do not let this misconception get out of hand. Educate others.

What are you going to do, right this moment, to teach others about autism and stop this misconception?

I’m sharing every Facebook posting I receive that shares this sentiment. I was chilled to the bone when Autism was brought up as a possible defense for this young man. But my husband assured me our son’s personality should dispel any negative thoughts. He’s the sweetest little boy and is compassionate about the well being of others. Thank you for this post!

I am appalled at the ADHD & Autism as the
Reason he killed people read up on how he treated his mother & how the mother was left to raise them after her husband passed away. How they had to down size from their lifestyle. The adoptive parents had no background of the biological parents. I assume that’s still no reasoning of why he committed such a horrific act to innocent teenagers. He was showing signs of mental issues way before he did this horrible act. The people that took them in knew he had gun & said they kept it locked up & they had the key regardless he was an adult. He worked saved his money & had been planning this for a while . Guns don’t kill people ! People kill people ! He got the gun legally . There are so many red flags that somebody should have seen it ! Someone did report it tonFBI but they didn’t fill it was a threat ?
